YouTube is testing a sleep timer feature that would allow premium users to automatically pause playback.

Users will need to enable the sleep timer feature before they can use it because it is an experimental feature.

A new feature that will enable users to halt video playback in case they want to go to sleep while watching content is being tested by YouTube. The video streaming behemoth has unveiled a new experimental function called Sleep Timer, which is accessible for a short time only. Its reception will determine when and how widely the corporation may deploy it to users. The company is currently testing a novel artificial intelligence (AI) solution that leverages Gemini, enabling content creators to create video outlines in response to text prompts and ideas for video titles and thumbnails.

YouTube Tests Sleep Timer Feature

YouTube announced the Sleep Timer feature’s availability in a statement on its website. The business described the feature as follows: “You can set a timer to automatically pause playback after a certain amount of time with Sleep Timer.”

Additionally, using it is quite simple. When a video is playing, users can use the YouTube app on their smartphone or the browser client on their PC or phone to access the settings menu (gear symbol on the upper right of the video interface). For the feature to be available, the user needs to be logged into their account.

The options to pause the playback after 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, and 60 minutes can be found in the settings menu under the Sleep Timer function. An additional option is to have the video cease automatically playing after it finished. Currently, YouTube Premium subscribers are the only ones who may use this feature.

Users will need to manually activate experimental features before they can utilise the feature because it is an experimental one. To try out these experimental new capabilities, Premium users can head to YouTube’s Settings page and select them. Please be aware that this feature will only be accessible through September 2.

If you are someone who likes to watch movies before bed but is concerned about shutting down the video or your battery dying in the middle of the night, the Sleep Timer feature will be a helpful addition. It’s worth noting that the monthly cost of a YouTube Premium subscription in India starts at Rs. 129. A single one-month subscription otherwise costs Rs. 139. The platform requires an annual subscription fee of Rs. 1,290.
